Island Hopping! Lunch on the Beach- Grand Case, St. Martin
With shopping taken care of in Saint Barths (Hello Longchamp) we saved time for lunch on the beach in St. Martin-Hungry? Head for Grand Case!
Saint Maarten/St. Martin is 37 miles from glorious beach to glorious beach and is the smallest land mass in the world shared by two governments-the Dutch side and the French side mingle and coexist with charm and ease.
It is on the French Side in the village of Grand Case, however, that for me the best of Saint Martin is seen. Colorful houses that actually have a dutch influence nestle along the bay of Grand Case and house what is considered to be the best food in the Caribbean.
For lunch we settled into Le Tastevin .
When you come to Grand Case the choices in wonderful spots to eat stretch across the old fisherman's village. If you follow this site then you know I care as much about the design as I do about the menu...so of course when I saw the glorious colors used in the decor of Le Tastevin-Designed with a Provencal twist on Caribbean style- I knew this was a spot I wanted to spend some time. Yellow and blue Provence decor with a splash of sand and Caribbean blue as you sit and watch the waves lap the pristine sugary sand…this is the way lunch should always be!
Le Tastevin is one of the oldest houses in the village and one of a handful that all but sits in the powdery sand-you may have a hard time concentrating on what to eat with such a view...but do look at the menu Much like the decor, the menu is a wonderful blend of French and Caribbean flavor-fresh, colorful, imaginative and delicious. Our choices Shrimp, lobster and avocado salad,a salad of Warm goat cheese wrapped in bacon with apples and pecans and raisins in balsamic. Mix in the Caribbean breeze, the sparkling water, and the sound of the waves kissing the sand-it's a lunch to pull out and remember when the your brown bagging looks sad!
